How deep should the new tub be?
A standard depth suits quick showers and bathing kids. A deeper soaking tub is better for long baths but takes more hot water and a higher step to get in, so think about who uses it most before choosing.
Acrylic wall panels or tile around the tub?
Acrylic wall systems have few or no grout lines and are quick to wipe down. Tile gives a more custom look and endless pattern choices, but its grout needs sealing and occasional care.
Glass enclosure or a shower curtain?
Glass keeps the room looking open and the floor drier, but a curtain is easier when you are kneeling beside the tub to bathe small children. A fixed half panel is a middle ground many families like.
Can we keep our old cast-iron tub?
Sometimes. If the enamel is sound it can be refinished in place and new walls built around it, but if it is chipped through or the drain needs work, replacing it is usually the better long-term value.
Will a new tub fit through our doors and up the stairs?
We measure the whole route from the street to the bathroom before ordering. Where a one-piece unit will not make the turns, a multi-piece tub and wall system goes in instead.
