One good tub, one good shower, in Sedamsville
Sedamsville (ZIP 45204) sits on the west-side hillside above River Road between Riverside and Sayler Park, with much of its housing climbing the slope and dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s.
A cast-iron tub full of water and a person is a serious load: several hundred pounds concentrated on a small area of an upstairs floor. In houses of this age, joists have often been notched by a century of plumbers and the span was never calculated for it. Before we set a new tub we look at what is carrying it, and where the structure needs help we say so. It is not a common problem, but it is not one you want found by the ceiling below.

Answers to your Sedamsville questions
Usually, but it is worth checking in a house this age. Joists get notched over a century of plumbing work. We look at what is under the bathroom before setting anything heavy on it.
A quality acrylic tub weighs a fraction of cast iron and is a legitimate choice where the structure is marginal. It warms up faster too; it just does not hold heat as long.
