What a walk-in tub takes in Woodlawn
Woodlawn (ZIP 45215) is a village in the Mill Creek valley north of the city, with a mix of residential streets and industrial corridors.
The wall behind a walk-in tub gets wet daily, and what is behind the tile decides whether that matters. A bonded membrane, a liquid-applied system or sealed foam board will last decades. Ordinary greenboard behind tile (still common because it is cheap) tolerates damp rather than excluding water. With a fixture this expensive, it is worth asking any contractor which of the four you are being quoted, because you cannot inspect it afterwards.

What Woodlawn homeowners ask us
A continuous waterproofing layer, and the useful question is which named system and whether it goes in to its maker’s instructions, including the corners and every pipe penetration. Those details, more than the board, are where most wall leaks begin.
Yes, and we would encourage it. It is the part of the job you are paying for and cannot inspect once the surround is on.
