Bathing safely at home in California
California (ZIP 45230) is Cincinnati’s far-east riverfront neighborhood along Kellogg Avenue near Riverbend and the old Coney Island grounds, set on low ground beside the Ohio River.
Standard practice waterproofs the surround above the tub and stops there. In a house that has taken water before, extending a bonded membrane across the whole bathroom floor is worth the modest extra, and it matters more with a walk-in tub than any other fixture, because a door seal is a mechanical part that will eventually need replacing and the floor is what catches the consequence.

Questions we hear in California
Because a walk-in tub has a door seal, a mechanical part that eventually wears. A floor built as a sealed tray means a seal problem is an inconvenience rather than a structural one.
Not against a river. Nothing in a bathroom does. It makes the room far easier to dry out and far less likely to need structural repair.
