A floor that lasts in a Sedamsville bathroom
Sedamsville (ZIP 45204) sits on the west-side hillside above River Road between Riverside and Sayler Park, with much of its housing climbing the slope and dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Tile does not crack because the tile failed. It cracks because the floor beneath it moved. Houses of this age were framed to standards that predate tile as a bathroom floor, and a century of plumbers notching joists for waste and supply has not helped. Before we quote a tile floor we look at the span, the depth and what has been cut out of it, because a floor that deflects underfoot will crack grout within a year no matter how well the tile is set.

Answers to your Sedamsville questions
Because the floor beneath it flexes, not because the tile is poor. Joists notched by decades of plumbing work are the usual cause, and it is why we look under the floor before quoting.
Usually: sistering joists or adding blocking from below where there is access. It is straightforward work and it goes in the quote rather than being discovered later.
