Mount Auburn, Cincinnati, OH · 45219
Why Mount Auburn kitchens need more than new cabinets.
Mount Auburn (ZIP 45219) is Cincinnati’s earliest hilltop suburb, rising north of the basin, with substantial 19th-century houses on steep winding streets.
Houses of this size and age usually have a chimney breast somewhere in or beside the kitchen, and it is rarely as removable as it looks. It may be carrying masonry above, it may still serve a flue for a boiler or water heater, and it is almost never square to the room. Whether it goes, stays or gets built around is a structural and mechanical question settled before the cabinetry is drawn, not after.

Common questions from Mount Auburn homeowners
Sometimes, and it depends what sits above it and whether the flue still serves an appliance. That is settled structurally before any cabinetry is drawn.
Then it gets designed into the room properly. Built around deliberately it reads as character; worked around late it reads as a compromise.
