What is the most common request?

Removing the wall between the kitchen and the family room. In ranch and split-level houses of this era that wall often carries ceiling joists, so a beam set flush in the ceiling is a common way to keep the opening clean, and it is sized on the drawings before anything comes down.

Updating a Bridgetown kitchen without losing the house

Bridgetown (ZIP 45248) is an unincorporated Green Township community on the west side, built out largely through the post-war decades in platted residential subdivisions.

Houses built as part of a subdivision tend to share a plan, which is genuinely useful: what we learn in one house often applies down the street, and the structural questions have usually been answered before. The recurring work is the era’s standard: opening the kitchen to the living space, upgrading a service sized for fewer appliances, and dealing with cast-iron waste that has done long service.
